Philadelphia 76ers trade targets: Alex Caruso is a win now player

Alex Caruso is a player that fits the win now mold that the Philadelphia 76ers are looking for to chase down a title. The Philadelphia 76ers are set to be major players in the 2024 NBA season, as they have a large amount of cap space to bring in a third max player next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. The team is also considering Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso, who fits the needs of a win-now player for the team. Carouso is an elite 3-point shooter and an elite defender, and fits the criteria for a win now player for Philadelphia. The Bulls have been mired in mediocrity and need a reset as a franchise for this era. The Sixers could also offer up Paul Reed and the No. 16 pick in the upcoming draft.

The Philadelphia 76ers will be major players in the 2024 offseason as they have a ton of cap space to bring in a third max player next to Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. This is an important offseason in order to contend in the East and chase down the Boston Celtics.

While the initial focus of the offseason is going to be to chase mega stars like Paul George, LeBron James, and others, Philadelphia will need to bring in role players as well to fill out the roster. The Sixers will not just be major players in the free agency market, but in trades as well.

An option the Sixers could look into is Chicago Bulls guard Alex Caruso. He fits that mold of a win now player that Philadelphia needs to move forward.

Why Caruso for the Sixers? It’s quite simple really. Caruso does all of the little things that Philadelphia is looking for while also being an elite 3-point shooter at 40.8% on 4.7 attempts per game. He is also an elite defender as he has been named to the All-Defensive First Team in 2023 and to the All-Defensive Second Team in 2024. Having a guy like him next to Embiid and Maxey would be the type of move that helps a title contender move forward. Why would the Bulls move Caruso now? After a trade deadline where they stood pat, one has to wonder if the Bulls are truly ready to hit the reset button. When considering the fact that Caruso only has one year and $9.8 million remaining on his contract, now’s the time for the Bulls to make a move. There is little evidence that suggests that he will be in Chicago beyond the 2024-25 season if he isn’t traded this offseason. The Bulls have been mired in mediocrity and need a bit of a reset as a franchise for this era. What can the Sixers offer the Bulls? At this very moment, just draft picks. However, Philadelphia could also offer up Paul Reed as well as the No. 16 pick in this draft. Chicago could certainly use an athletic big man who works his tail off in Reed as well as another draft pick in order to stockpile young talent for the future. Especially, when considering they will owe the San Antonio Spurs their first-round pick in 2025 if it doesn’t land in the top 10 from the DeMar DeRozan trade. The Bulls will want more draft assets in a move for Caruso. Could Caruso replace De'Anthony Melton for the Sixers? This is more speculation than anything, but one has to wonder if the Sixers will bring Melton back after he only played in 38 games in the 2023-24 season due to a lingering back issue. Caruso can do everything Melton can and has a championship on his resume from his days with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020. One has to wonder if the is a guy who Philadelphia will have its eyes on and at least give Chicago a call on Caruso.
