Morrisville Borough Manager Resigns

Morrisville Mayor Gary Wallace said that Borough Manager Judith Danko's resignation is effective on June 22. Mayor Gary Wallace of Morrisville, Pennsylvania, has resigned from the position of the Borough Manager, Danko, to accept another position. The resignation comes after concerns were raised that the borough was paying for Dankon's hotel expenses, which included $11,373 for her stay at a chain hotel in Morrisville four days a week. The council also covered tolls for commuting to work after the new budget was approved in December. The borough has seen numerous changes in the past six months, including the appointment of Wallace as mayor and the termination of former Police Chief George McClay. Last month, the borough reached a $200,000 termination settlement with McClay, who was dismissed while on vacation.

Mayor Gary Wallace told Patch Tuesday morning that Danko has resigned to accept another position. The mayor said he did not know where she would be headed.

"We are talking about how we plan to replace her now," Wallace said. "We will be looking for someone with the leadership skills to continue our progress forward." Danko came under scrutiny at the end of last year when it was raised that the borough was paying for her hotel expenses.

Since she was hired, the borough has paid $11,373 to have Danko stay in a chain hotel in Morrisville four days a week, the Courier Times reported. When she was hired, the council agreed to spare Danko a three-hour daily round trip commute and pay for her to live locally during the work week until her family could relocate from the Lehigh County area to Bucks County.

The council also has covered tolls for commuting to work, the newspaper said. Wallace said that practice ended in December after the borough's new budget was approved.

Morrisville has undergone numerous changes over the past six months.

Besides Wallace being named mayor, the borough has seen its governing body overturn with one longtime council member not being re-elected and the police chief recently being fired. Last month, the borough reached a $200,000 termination settlement with former Police Chief George McClay. McClay, who was terminated in November while on vacation in Mexico, was relieved of his duties with the council taking disciplinary action it had considered when it had authorized a Loudermill notice against the chief. "With the hire of our new police chief (not official yet), a new mayor, and new council members and president, the borough is in a great position and we are moving past any bad press that Morrisville has received in the past and look forward to its bright future," Wallace said.
